Ziggy the Colorway Snake

Ziggy has never subscribed to the idea that a snake should be any particular colour. One shade from nose to tail? A single, predictable hue? Ziggy considered this approach briefly and moved on without looking back.

What Ziggy is, instead, is a travelling exhibition of everything that happens when colour is approached with genuine joy and absolutely no apology: cream at the nose, then warm ochre, then a deep burnt orange, then indigo, then back to cream again, then forest green, then earthy brown — each section giving way to the next with the confident logic of someone who simply knows what they like and has the body length to explore all of it.

That pale, softly textured face carries the expression of a creature entirely at ease with the stir it creates — two small stitched eyes, a flicked cord tongue, and the particular composure of someone who has long since accepted that they are going to be the most interesting thing in any room they enter.

Ziggy's long, flexible form drapes, coils, loops over shoulders, and arranges itself across bookshelves and bed ends with equal ease — part companion, part object, part quietly excellent piece of colour theory made tangible. For the child who reaches immediately for the most vivid thing in the room. And for the adult who quietly does the same. Spectacularly, chromically alive.

Véronique Lacaze is an interior designer and graduate of the Arts Décoratifs de Paris. She began her career at Printemps where she became the project manager for the animated Christmas windows. She then began to design the Printemps mascots, the famous characters of the Boulevard Haussmann that, at the end of each year, make children and adults dream alike. It was a magical experience for her. Creating characters for children, seeing them come to life in the shop windows... Véronique Lacaze feels like a real Geppetto!
