Louis the Grande Lion

Louis has never needed to announce himself. He simply arrives, and the room understands.There is a particular composure that belongs to creatures who have made their peace with exactly who they are — who  carry their strength without display and their authority without effort. Louis has this completely. His head bows slightly forward in that way of someone thinking something worth thinking, the great ochre linen mane settling around his face with the unhurried certainty of something that was always going to look exactly like this.

He is warm golden velvet from nose to paw — cream at the chest, amber at the feet, the stitched claws planted with quiet confidence on whatever surface he has chosen to occupy. The small embroidered nose, the tail curling behind him with complete ease, the long substantial limbs arranged with the relaxed assurance of a creature who has absolutely nowhere more important to be — all of it speaks of someone entirely arrived at himself.

The mane is the thing, though. Generously gathered ochre linen that catches the light and holds it there — not a flourish, but a fact. Simply part of who Louis is, worn with the same effortless conviction as everything else about him. Large enough to anchor a room, soft enough to anchor a child through a difficult night. For anyone who has ever been drawn instinctively to the one in the room who says the least and means the most. Wholly, magnificently himself.

Véronique Lacaze is an interior designer and graduate of the Arts Décoratifs de Paris. She began her career at Printemps where she became the project manager for the animated Christmas windows. She then began to design the Printemps mascots, the famous characters of the Boulevard Haussmann that, at the end of each year, make children and adults dream alike. It was a magical experience for her. Creating characters for children, seeing them come to life in the shop windows... Véronique Lacaze feels like a real Geppetto!
