“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
— Jacques Yves Cousteau

Welcome to week three of Camp manuliVille!

This week we're hitting the beach. Whether you live close to a coast or are inland-bound, our activities are made for everyone. From shells and sand to surfing and more, let's go!

YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:

1/ CREATE YOUR OWN SHELL DISH
This project combines any of the shells you may have collected from past beach excursions with some scraps of wrapping paper. Follow along with the video, below for full instructions.
MIYO - If you don't have a spare shell, you can make this project in any vessel you have around the house. Try upcycling a lid of any kind, a small jar, or other containers with patterned paper.

2/ THINK OUTSIDE THE SHELL
Imagine what it would be like to be a turtle or snail (or any other creature with a shell). Now imagine this same creature hanging up their shell for a day and going on a brand new adventure - shell-free. What would they look like without their shell? Where would they go? What would they do?

Fold a few pieces of paper in half, and nestle them inside each other to make your own book. Write about your creature's shell-free adventures and add some drawings. Share you ideas with us here! And take a look below for some additional inspiration.

3/ ADD COLOR
Download our shell coloring page below and create your own unique shells.

“In every grain of sand there is the story of the earth.”
— Rachel Carson

Today is about sea friends, sand dollars, and sandcastles.

YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:

1/ CREATE YOUR OWN SEA FRIENDS
Our wobbling whale kit has everything you need to build a 3D friend. Take a peek, below! Don't have the kit? MIYO by sketching out your own sea friends (real AND imagined) color and trim them out and they are ready to go.

2/ MAKE YOUR OWN SAND DOLLAR
Weave together your own sand dollars using the "God's Eye" technique. Grab 3 small sticks and break them so they are all the same size. Cross them over each other and tie in the middle. Tie a long strand of yarn in the middle. Wrap the yarn around the first stick, then wrap around the next stick. Continue this technique around the entire frame-work. If you run out of yarn simply tie another piece to the strand. Decorate your sand dollar with beads or trimmings.

3/ BUILD A CASTLE
Did you know... the world's tallest sandcastle measured 50 feet high, took 10 days to construct and used 300 truckloads of sand?! While we don't have that kind of sand on-hand, let's spend some time building castles with the materials we do have. MIYO - Grab a friend or two and some carboard boxes, blocks, recycled plastic bottles and/or whatever else you have around the house or outside to build and stack with. Work together to create your own magical castle.
