“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”
— Albert Einstein
We're flying into week two at Camp manuliVille!
This week we're letting our imaginations take flight and working on projects that feature all things birds and bees and butterflies in between. Today features seeds, nourishment and pollination.
YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:
1/ CREATE A BIRDSEED ORNAMENT
Feed the birds without needing a separate bird feeder! This project require a few ingredients that you likely have at home - and if not, most grocery stores carry everything you need: flour, corn syrup, unflavored gelatin, and birdseed. Download the full instructions below:
MIYO - We used cookie cutters to shape our ornaments, but you can make it your own by scultping, molding into egg crates, or creating shapes that inspire you (just remember to add a hole before the seeds dry if you'd like to hang your ornament).
2/ GET YOUR GARDEN GROWING
Seeds provide more than just food! Next we're using old newspaper to create paper pots to plant seeds in. Using newspaper not only allows you to upcycle, but to plant your pot directly into the ground as well, as newspaper pots break down quickly. Watch our how-to video below to get started.
3/ SHOW THE POLLINATORS YOUR LOVE
It's time to get planting! Consider planting a pollinator garden which supplies crucial food & nutrients for all those hard working pollinators including bees, birds, butterflies, moths, bats, beetles and more!
Start your seeds in your paper pots until they're strong enough to grow outdoors (keep in mind seeds need time to germinate and every geographic region has different planting climates, so be sure to check your local area and plant accordingly). See some of our favorite seeds & tools below.

Today we're focusing on wings, gliders, and the art of flight.
YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:
1/ GLIDER RACES
Today we're encouraging you to get outside and fly! This project was inspired by our Felix Gliders - have you seen them? These best sellers soar like no other glider we've ever seen (seriously!). Made in Germany, we offer them here. If you have a glider, use that. If you don't, don't fret - make some paper airplanes. Mark each flight on the ground with a piece of tape or rock and see who can fly the farthest.
2/ MAKE YOUR OWN WINGS
Just like humans, wings come in many shapes and sizes and today we want you to create your own! Cut them out using recycled cardboard boxes, attach a ribbon or fabric strap, decorate, and you're ready to launch! Find inspiration below as well as a few pairs of our favorite ready-mades. MIYO - Make it your own by decorating with bits of nature and/or anything you have on hand (and don't forget to share with us on instagram!)
3/ MATCH THE WINGS!
It's time to play a game! Our beautiful Butterfly Wings game teaches and tests your memory. If you don't have this game on hand, create your own matching game by drawing 10 (or more!) pairs of your favorite wings (see below for some wings we love).

Hello fine feathered friends, today we've going to dive into a good book and learn about birds, bugs and the beauty of nature.
YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:
1/ MAKE A FEATHER BOOKMARK
Print out our feather template below and trim your feather (or keep it as a rectangle). Add a ribbon and embellishments if you like.
MIYO - Draw your own feather and trim it out as a bookmark - OR - go on a feather-hunt and collect a real feather to use as a bookmark.
2/ DISCOVER NATURE'S WONDERS
Find a quiet spot, grab a cuddly friend, and build a nest using blankets, leaves or whatever inspires you most. Now let's get reading! Need a good nature-inspired book? Check out some of our favorites, below.
3/ MAKE & WEAR YOUR ART
Express yourself with temporary tattoos. MIYO: Did you know you can make your own? by drawing on tracing or parchment paper and transfering the design with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. * Make sure a parent is with you and test on a small area first. In addition, some of our favorite feathered temporary tattoos are below.

Today is all about creating. From pinecones to paper, come along and craft with us.
YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:
1/ PINECONE FRIENDS
Find a pinecone (any size) and some clay. Mold wings and a head with the clay and add to the pinecone body. MIYO - don't have any clay? Try pom poms, salt dough, or even paper or leaves to create your wings and heads. And don't forget to show us on instagram!
2/ PENGUIN ORIGAMI
Let's turn paper into penguins. Upcycle any paper you have by trimming it into a square. Follow the directions in the video below. Make a full waddle!
3/ ADD SOME COLOR
Find your favorite markers, crayons, or pencils and make a masterpiece with our coloring page, below. Or better yet, MIYO - draw and color the owl and penguin projects you created from above, or choose to draw your favorite bird.
Penguin Origami
Grab any upcycled paper (we used paper bags and old sheet music) and trim it into a square.

TGIB - Thank Goodness It's Birdwatching Day!
Let's go on an adventure...
YOUR CAMP PROJECTS FOR TODAY:
1/ BIRD SCAVENGER HUNT
Use our template below, head outside and see how many you can find. Mark them off as you go, and share how many you find with us here!
2/ DRAW YOUR FINDINGS
Create a visual journal. Every time you find a bird sketch what you see. Watch how quickly your drawing skills and bird finding skills grow! (psst. see our favorite nature activity book below!)
3/ MAKE A MASK
Find two larger leaves and glue them together. Cut small holes out at eye level. Add a string and make a nature mask! MIYO - Don't have any leaves? Try paper plates (or any flat material you can easily cut with scissors) to make your mask and decorate however you like! And don't forget to share your creations with us on instagram.
