This enchanting little Elephant Mouse is the only mouse we can think of that we'd be happy to see inside our home. With his little hands sewn together, he'll hold your pen, a piece of candy, a felt flower or some other special something - perfect for gifting. The talented artisans behind the creation of these wonderful animals spend a significant amount of time researching what animals actually look like and how they move, resulting in magical creations that could come to life at any moment, and this Elephant Mouse is no exception. It is part of the Portraits in Nature series, a hand-crafted collection of realistic plush animals. Artists working in a socially responsible and environmentally responsible studio create each animal from portraits of the creature in its natural habitat. And because each animal is hand sewn, every animal will have slight variations in appearance, giving them each their own unique personality.

Did you know? The elephant mouse, also known as Mus musculus domesticus, is found World-wide. An ancestor of the well known white mice that are widely used for scientific experimentation, these mice have soft fur that is yellowish gray on top with streaks of black. They eat any plants or animal material it can find and are slightly less than 17cm/6.7 inches long including the tail which is 8cm/3.15 inches long. Domestic mice, because of better nutrition are often larger. Elephant mice breed every 10-17 weeks and produce 5-10 young per litter.

Artisans hand sew the animals inside out, an old world tradition that results in the minimization of seams, and their bodies are carefully sculpted to create musculature and features like movement in a walking or sitting position that are unique to each creature. On average, there are 42 separate pieces required to make each animal, that must be combined by a team of truly creative artists to create the distinctly realistic features that characterize HANSA animals. (Some animals have as many as 240 different parts!) Each animal is individually hand sewn, to give it a unique personality, there are more than 860 different fabrics and man-made furs from which the "coat" and "hides" are made, along with over 6000 sets of different eyes, whiskers, claws, noses, and related accessories allocated for creating these wonderful plush animals. Stuffing emphasizes careful attention to the placement of the highest quality man-made materials. When you hold these wonderfully life-like animals, you will see and feel HANSA's emphasis on quality, which is a result of careful attention to design, custom fabric selection, cutting, sewing, stuffing, eye placement, feature creation, framing, airbrushing and finishing. Since each animal is hand sewn, there will be slight variations in appearance.
